The purpose of the 9474 Foundation is to provide joy in the trials of life. Through the generous donations of our supporters the 9474 Foundation looks to provide in main two areas that were also essential in Phil's life - funding for Christian education and assisting young adults battling colorectal cancer.
First, the eternal and temporal values attained through Christian education can shape and form the faith of young people and create a sense of service and outreach to others. The cost for Christian education can be overwhelming to families and can keep individuals from placing their children in this educational environment. By assisting with scholarship opportunities, the 9474 Foundation desires to bring joy to the life of families wishing to strengthen their child’s faith foundation at the same time they are receiving an excellent education.
Secondly, while there are many opportunities for children and adults to receive assistance during the battle with colorectal cancer, the young adult or recent college graduate finds far fewer resources. Many young adults are working through the beginning of careers and the struggles that can occur while also battling this type of cancer and the effects that can have on life. The myriad of ways to assist individuals that find themselves in the fight of their life would be a tremendous way to show love to them and their families in a concrete fashion.
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James 1:2-4
The 9474 Foundation’s work is built upon the Gospel message of Jesus Christ and His suffering, death, resurrection and ascension for all humanity. As we live in a fallen world with trials and sufferings, we know that God has given His people the opportunity to serve others in light of that Gospel message and bring joy to them. We will use that opportunity to bring the joy of Christ into the lives of young adults fighting cancer or to families in the midst of pursuing Christian education for their children.
